GPS Old Boys Rugby Scholarship.

The GPS Old Boys Rugby Scholarship program was implemented to support outstanding new and continuing Colts aged players (18-20 years old) who have demonstrated exceptional ability in rugby and provide bursary to aid them in their trade/tertiary education in partnership with their rugby football development. Amounts are awarded in consideration of the athlete’s highest level of sporting achievement, and can reach $4000. This Scholarship has a one-year term and is open to new and continuing players. The scholarship amounts are awarded based on the yearly available funding from club donors.

Eligibility:

  • Are an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or the holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa;

  • And are a new or continuing registered player aged 18 to 20 who is, or intends to play for the GPS Rugby Club in 2024.

Selection criteria:

The scholarships will be awarded, at the discretion of the GPS Rugby Club selection committee, to the applicants showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by:

  • Academic achievement in their secondary school studies or tertiary level studies to date or other post-secondary study or trade;

  • Leadership achievements and capabilities; and

  • Elite level sporting achievements in their chosen sport.

Applicants must detail and address all criteria as part of the application process and present such in resume format.

Conditions for scholarship:

The scholarship is tenable for one year and will be paid in two half-yearly instalments (March and September) subject to the recipient:

  • Maintaining the required enrolment in a relevant program; and

  • Maintaining satisfactory academic/trade progress; and

  • Membership and satisfactory performance with GPS Rugby Club Inc, as determined by the selection committee.

A recipient who fails to meet the requirements above must show cause to the selection committee why the scholarship should not be cancelled.

Successful applicants will be contacted by the club before the start of the 2024 season.
