GPS win try fest at Yoku Road

The Galloper’s defeated the Eagles 44-33 at Yoku Road in Round 6 of Queensland Premier Rugby.

AJ Alatimu was outstanding for the Galloper’s using his fine-tuned kicking skills to punish Norths at every opportunity.

The Eagles drew first blood after turning down an easy opportunity for three points, instead allowing their heavy pack to score off a rolling maul 10 metres from the Galloper’s line.

The battle of the forwards continued with GPS leveling the scores only minutes later after an onslaught of pick and drives.

The Galloper’s second try came through a sharp line from prop Fred Burke, who sliced through the Norths defence to extend the Galloper’s lead to 17-7.

AJ Alatimu’s spectacular performance was rewarded with a try after he bumped off his opposite number before scoring under the posts and adding the extras.

Norths halfback Nicholas Chapman narrowed the Galloper’s lead to 24-12 after he found space and slipped an inside ball into Conor Chittenden.

Alatimu applied consistent score board pressure early in the second half before halfback Tom Christie spotted an opportunity for a quick tap, popped to Burke who slipped a pass to Michael Richards to score.

Despite the Galloper’s commanding 37-12 lead, the Eagles refused to let the game slip further scoring two tries in just five minutes.

Maaloga Konelio put Norths out of reach after bashing over with AJ adding the extras and rounding out a perfect day with the boot.

Brent Jones scored a consolation try for the Eagles, running an excellent support line after Kallum Mackay snuck down the wing past the 80th minute mark.
